District 3 Report – July 2022

Hello from District 3,

Well, we ratified what I consider to be a good one-year contract. It provides a solid stepping-stone for next year and allows us to get back to focusing on securing more work and representing the great members of IBEW Local 11.

Over the last couple months, I have spoken about work that was upcoming and has started in District 3. One of the upcoming projects I referred to was the new hotel in Santa Monica at Ocean Ave and Santa Monica Blvd. A few staff members and I, spearheaded by Tommy Faavae, represented local 11 at the Santa Monica City Council meeting. Tommy spoke to the benefits a project like this can bring to the community of Santa Monica. He also emphasized that a PLA would provide well paying high road jobs to its residents. The architect is none other than the famous Frank Gehry who has created buildings which are considered works of art. I am really looking forward to watching this project develop.

Please remember to keep all your certs current. Don’t let that job call get by you because of an expired cert. And the more certs you obtain, the more opportunities you’ll provide for yourself.

On another note, your District 3 Welfare Committee has been feverishly preparing for our August 6 local-wide picnic. District 3 will be debuting two new shirts and, as always, manning the raffle. We hope to see you all there.
