Sound & Communications Report – October 2022

Our benefits are a vital part of why we are in this great organization so let’s be sure we get what we are entitled to. If you are working outside of our jurisdiction, there are a couple of items that you need to make sure are taken care of.

Electronic Reciprocal Transfer System (ERTS) paperwork should be filled out before you sign Book 2 as a traveler in another local. All district offices have this paperwork for your convenience. This will ensure that you will be credited for your benefits. Some of our members have experienced a setback with their benefits due to this process being overlooked. We all need insurance for ourselves and family members to be active for those times that may be unexpected and needed. It is a big shock when you get to your healthcare provider, and you are informed that you are not covered. It only takes a minute of your time to go to dispatch and make sure everything is in order.

Make sure that you have a “Travel Letter” when you travel to another local’s jurisdiction and please be sure to follow up and make sure they have all your information. Never assume! Always be proactive to reassure yourself.

International President Lonnie Stephenson and 9th District Representative Dave Jones recently visited Local 11 and attended our General Meeting, the Apprentice Industry Night, and they also visited several of our jobsites.

President Stephenson shared with our membership how Local 11’s leaders and members are seen throughout the International and Canada as being influential and progressive with our work. We are driven to capture the market share by organizing members and contractors by keeping the IBEW Strong initiative in mind. Thanks to our diversity, inclusion and equity, this local’s reputation is well-respected.

It was a great honor and privilege to have President Stephenson take time out of his busy schedule to spend some time with us. Be proud that you are all seen as the best of the best and remember that you are a big part of representing this great local. We should all keep up the great work and strive for excellence.

Stay well and be safe.
