Unit 14 Civil Service Report – October 2021

I hope you are all doing well and staying safe. Hopefully by now you have taken the necessary steps to get vaccinated for COVID-19 in order to protect yourself, your families and your coworkers.

For those of you who have chosen not to be vaccinated, Local 11 along with the LA/OC Building Trades has been negotiating the effects of the Public Sector Mandatory Vaccination Policies affecting our members for the last few months. Although our bargaining has ended at an impasse, we were successful in moving the Public Agencies to impose a policy that is less onerous for members who choose not to be vaccinated.

Thanks to our efforts, we have been able to extend the deadline for mandatory vaccination for some of the agencies. Additionally, we successfully advocated for medical and religious exemptions. The imposed policies include no-cost testing for those members who receive an approved medical exemption or an exemption for a sincerely held religious belief.

If you do not receive an exemption from the mandatory vaccination policy and are ultimately separated from service, please contact my office so that we can work together to see if you are eligible to find work as a member within our private sector ranks.
