Unit 14 Civil Service Report – August 2021

Sisters and Brothers,

I hope this report finds you healthy and in good spirits. By now you have likely been made aware of the proposed impending COVID-19 vaccine mandates. While the mandates vary slightly among the public agencies, they all essentially dictate that you, as an employee, may be required to be vaccinated in order to remain in your position. Unfortunately, it seems that there is legal precedent for this type of action.

What this means is that the public agencies do not have to negotiate over the decision itself. However, they do have to negotiate over the impact of the mandate. Such things as incentives, religious and health exemptions, alternative work schedules, and many other variables must be negotiated with the Union. IBEW Local 11 encourages all members to get vaccinated, but we will do our best to support those individuals who choose not to. In the coming weeks, I will keep you all informed as the circumstances surrounding this issue change on a regular basis. For now, please continue to do the great work that you do and keep yourself and your families safe.

For further information, please feel free to contact me.

Fraternally,
