District 6 Report — October 2023

As your new District 6 Business Agent, I’m writing to you with a few words and an important reminder. Construction has become a strategic numbers game for contractors to be profitable. The important number to us as members is 44,500. We go to school to be journeymen union electricians, to receive benefits and eventually to be able to retire. But are we doing everything possible to be able to retire?

We must understand that, just because a project is being built, doesn’t mean they are going to load it with manpower. Employers believe that “less is more.” Understand that a quality electrician is what is always needed. So, treat yourself as a professional, and you will be treated as such and stay employed longer. As a former superintendent, I always say that hours and dollars are all that matter.
