District 6 Report — October 2022

I hope all is well with you and your loved ones,

We have been attending numerous Norwalk City Council meetings to support a PLA that has been signed for a big multimillion dollar project. This project, “The Walk,” will include multiple, multi-use buildings with over 350 residential units, storefront units, a health facility, outdoor concert style theater for entertainment and local events. It is a long-term project and we’re glad to say it will be all union work!

We also have work in Hacienda/La Puente School District, Mount SAC, and Queen of the Valley. City of Hope is underway as well, building from the ground and should be calling out electricians in the near future. Irwindale Brewery trudges ahead slowly. Mass Electric and the Gold Line railroad will be ramping up their job calls, so keep an eye out for that railroad work.

In other good news, LAX has millions of dollars in place for multiple projects over the next 5 to 10 years. Intuit Dome has begun calling for manpower. Refineries have been going strong, so be sure to get your certs. Call our Los Angeles refinery business rep Manny Solis for any details.

Volunteering opportunities for political action are here! Don’t forget to register to vote. Our ibew11.org website has a list of our endorsed candidates who are labor friendly provided by Political Director Antonio Sanchez. Contact me or Tommy Z, our District 6 Organizer, if you want to get involved.

I want to thank our Business Manager Joël Barton for arranging an historical moment for our brothers and sisters. Our International President, Lonnie Stephenson, and District 9 Representative Dave Jones joined us for Apprentice Night and for our General Meeting. President Stephenson spoke with and stood for pictures with our apprentices as well as our members at the General Meeting. President Stephenson talked about the Infrastructure Bill, the Chip Bill, and the IRA Bill. President Stephenson was on the transition team for President Biden, a labor champion in every way.

Take good care of yourself and one another.

Jacob Troncoza
