District 3 Report – September 2022

As the Summer of 2022 comes to an end and the job calls are seasonably slow, brighter days are on the horizon, starting with LAX. With the consolidation of all the rental cars facilities, there will be more available land to build a proposed cargo modernization project that will include three large locations. With the relocation of LAX Fuels off World Way West, they will be awarding the Taxiway D project next month. I also learned of a new proposed, LAX Hotel, with location to follow. And as far as Concourse O is concerned, we’ll have to keep our eyes on when they start relocating the UBER/LYFT lot.

The Building Trades were able to strike a deal with the general contractor at the Cedars Sinai project in Marina del Rey, and Local 11 was able to capture half the electrical scope. Baker Electric will be performing the Energy Center site work, and the low voltage within the hospital. As stated before, Cedars Sinai is adding a large new wing on the north side along Melrose.

Another project that I’ll be visiting is in Century City at the corner of Ave of the Stars and Constellation. McCarthy is the general contractor, and the project will be above the MTA Station where the Purple Line 2 and 3 meet. The LACMA project with Sasco Electric has been plugging along with a handful of members. As of right now, it’s mostly concrete and rebar for the foundations of the isolators, but they are expecting to be adding to the crew in the first quarter of 2023. This is a new wing of the museum with a lot of square footage.

Other projects I’m keeping my eye on are the Chargers Training Facility in El Segundo, District 3 adjacent Intuit Arena in District 1 Inglewood, and Harbor UCLA Medical Center in District 2 Torrance. So, as you can see, the future on the westside is looking pretty good. As always, if you see a job you want us to check out, just reach out to the agent of that area. You are our eyes and ears.
