President’s Message – August 2022

Brothers and Sisters,

I would first like to thank you for making the Local 11 Picnic such a great success. We had just under 3,000 members and family in attendance which is a big increase from last year. A special thank you to Dave Grabowski for being the chairman of this year’s picnic committee and to all those who helped make this event such a wonderful time! It was very hot out, so I guess next year (if we have it during the same time of the year) we should have those “misting sprayers” set up around the place to give everyone a place to cool off. Everybody I talked to said they had a great time!

Labor Day is coming up, and the annual parade will take place on Monday, September 5 at Banning Park, sponsored by the Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbor Labor Coalition and other organizations. Local 11 will be leaving it up to you all should you decide to go and attend. We’re going to take a break from bringing the BBQ and all the set up and to-do. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend as you see fit!

The time is coming up quickly for our concerted efforts to get labor-friendly candidates elected to office. The local will be asking you to get involved by walking precincts, phone banking and attending rallies. If it hasn’t been said lately then let me say it now, “All OF THIS WORKS.” The candidates that we get elected help support our labor causes.

Thank you for your past service and also for your willingness to help with whatever comes up next.

In Solidarity,

Gaylord R “Rusty” Roten
President IBEW Local 11
