Veterans Report — July 2022

Fellow Local Union 11 Veterans,

I would like to share a few very important pieces of information with you regarding your Veteran Status. The Veterans Administration has developed a New Veterans Crisis Line phone number. Effective July 16, Veterans have the option to Dial 988 and then Press 1 to connect with caring, qualified responders for 24/7 crisis support. In response to the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act creating the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, the Department of Veterans Affairs has made it more user-friendly to access the Veterans Crisis Line.

Additionally, you should get a “Veterans” designation on your driver’s license, as most states offer this free of charge. If you want to get your full benefits as a veteran, you will want to make sure to get this designation. Having your driver’s license updated with your veterans status ensures you can easily get special veterans-only discounts and other benefits that are offered by private businesses as well as state and local governments.

As always, I remind you of your most valuable benefit, the V.A. Home Loan, which offers you $0 down payment, and the ability to finance 100 percent of the home’s value with no money down. Additionally, there are competitive interest rates due to the V.A. backing the loan.

Director of Veteran Affairs
