District 2 Report — June 2022

Brothers and Sisters,

The work picture in D2 has been slow for some time now, but there are some nice size projects coming up.

Rosendin-Meadows JV, Pacific Industrial Electric and GECTWO will all be working on the Harbor UCLA five-year project. The existing campus is going to be removed (main hospital is staying) and all new buildings, new sub-station and infrastructure will be going in. Jobs calls probably won’t start until later this year.

Taft Electric has the brand new Compton High School project starting soon.

There will be two new eight-story buildings coming in downtown Long Beach where the old courthouse/civic center was.

There are six tilt-up buildings coming in Carson across the freeway from IKEA where the outdoor mall was going to be built for a total of 1.5 million square feet. Gregg Electric will be doing this.  Gregg will also be doing two new buildings by the Long Beach Airport.

The Belmont Shores Pool in Long Beach covered under a PLA needs to be built before the 2028 Olympics.

AES Power Plant in Long Beach is scheduled to add another 75 MW of BESS.

BEI is also getting ready to start a new battery storage facility at the Hinson Substation in Long Beach. This project has just broken ground and is estimated for six-nine months.

Right down the street from our South Bay Hall, they are demolishing the existing Toyota plant buildings and replacing them with new tilt-ups.  Gregg Electric should be doing this one.

There are multiple projects in the Port of Long Beach and LA ongoing, with some new ones to start in the near future.

The City of Carson is going to be installing 100+ EV charging stations after SCE gets the infrastructure in place. Baker Electric is slated to be installing the EV chargers.

If you see any construction site in your travels that you want me to look in on, or if you want me to stop by your site, please give me a call, text or email so I can stop by.  The only way we know where the current jobs sites are at is if we see job calls come into the halls, we happen to drive by a site, or if you the members give us a call.

Remember, the first Wednesday of each month is our D2 meeting and the last Tuesday of each month is our D2 Welfare Committee meeting. All members are welcome to our D2 monthly meetings and all D2 members are welcome to attend the D2 Welfare meetings.  The elwfare meetings are where we discuss new designs for shirts, challenge coins, pins etc. so if you want to get involved, please stop by.  Currently both meetings are held at the South Bay Hall and start at 5 p.m.

If you know someone who needs help with their dues, or is financially in need, have them reach out to the welfare committee of their district to see what the welfare committee can do to help out.  They can fill out and turn in the form at any of the halls to request assistance.

Keep August 6 marked on your calendars. This will be the date of the annual IBEW Local 11 Picnic. It will be at the Hollywood Sports Park again this year.

Just a reminder, Saturday July 16 9 a.m, at the Pasadena Convention Center, we have a special called meeting for the ratification of the contract. Drag a sister and/or brother with you to the meeting.

Thank you all for letting me serve as your D2 Agent, it is an honor and privilege to serve this membership and this great IBEW.
