District 2 Report — January 2022

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year’s holidays. 2022 is here and hopefully, it will continue to be another great work year for the local. Even though District 2 has been a little slow for a while, Local 11 has still been recording record work hours.
A few upcoming projects in the D2 area will be the two mixed-use buildings in downtown Long Beach near the new library. This project is covered under a PLA, so it will be our union brothers and sisters on this job whichever contractor is awarded the project.
Also, Gregg Electric has a few projects in the D2 area including the project right outside of Marathon Refinery (Carson site) which is in the dirt phase right now. They have two projects coming up at the Long Beach Airport on the north side right off Cherry Avenue.
Baker Electric has a project at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center that has just started up.
The Port of Long Beach and the Port of L.A. should see some projects coming up this year.
We are in a contract year for our collective bargaining agreement for the Inside Wireman’s Agreement. The local will be sending out a form for those working under the agreement to ask for their ideas on what you would like to see added, deleted, changed, re-worded, etc. Make your voice heard. Fill out the form, encourage your brothers and sisters to do the same and return those forms with your ideas.
This March 5 will be the one-year anniversary of the opening of our South Bay Hall, and I still hear members saying they were not aware we had a hall down in the South Bay. Please pass along the information of our fabulous site to all our D2 and D3 members. The address is 2150 W. 190th Street, Torrance, CA 90504.
If you see any projects out there in our District 2 area you are not sure if they are union, please contact me or Oscar Martinez our D2 Organizer, and we will check them out. Oscar’s contact info is (626) 429-1665 and his email is omartinez@ibew11.org.
Remember to keep an eye on your fellow brothers and sisters. If you see something that’s not right, reach out and see if they are doing OK. We are a family, and we need to always be each other’s keepers. Make sure you take care of the old-timers on the job site. They’ve more than earned it, and one day we will all be that old-timer ourselves.
A quick reminder that our District 2 monthly meetings are the first Wednesday of each month at 5:00 pm at our South Bay Hall. Currently due to the new COVID restrictions, all District meetings are being held via Zoom, so keep an eye out in your emails for the invites.
