District 5 Report — August 2021

Good Day, Brothers and Sisters,

As we are now well into the heat of summer, jobs continue to sizzle.

Ferreira Construction is starting on the 25 MW solar array at Lockheed. Rosendin Electric is gearing up for its solar project in West Lancaster. The Palmdale School District is beginning to take off, now working on several school projects, while Taft Electric continues work at Antelope Valley College and elsewhere.

We have several major projects upcoming in the High Desert. We recently finished a LAQSP class that counted hours toward our California State Certification renewal. Our members also received their deposit back, along with a stipend. How many Locals and/or schools offer to pay you to take a class to better yourself and your skills?

Thank you to our Business Manager Joël Barton and our NECA Chapter Manager Jim Wilson for making this possible. If you’re interested in taking a class at the District 5 Hall, please call to let us know.

Our Unit 5 meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. Please feel free to attend and stay informed on jobs and current events in the area and to enjoy some good, old-fashioned — and much-needed — camaraderie.

Our annual Local 11 picnic is coming up on October 23. District 5 handles the kids’ games and prizes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Come on out, bring the family, and have a great time! Thank you to our officers, members, and activists for their hard work and participation.

God Bless,

Mitch Klein
