If I asked you to take care of soldering a “Christmas Tree,” most of you would stare back at me with a dazed and confused look. Google did the same thing, giving me Christmas trees and soldering irons articles and ads, and having no idea that old telco/audio systems used devices that had to be soldered.
Our technology changes at a pace that would leave Bell and Tesla speechless. Training is what you help pay for, and the ETI is on a quest to bring the training up to speed. Take advantage of it. Our industry is so much more than pulling wire and terminating connections. Everything that makes our world livable and enjoyable runs over the backbones that we put into place. Training for the future is how we stay ahead of the non-union, and while we demand the best training be available to us, we must take advantage of said training.
Call the ETI and get your name on the list for upcoming classes. Be sure to get your VDV and FLS California State Certifications and maintain the required continuing education so that you don’t lose the certifications. Playing catch-up is no fun, staying ahead of the curve is where we need to be.
