District 3 — May Report

Hello from District 3,

As we continue to move through these unique times, and some 38 million people filing for unemployment, I feel blessed to be deemed an “essential worker” so I can make my own decision whether to self-quarantine or go to work. With our training and education, I think we are some of the most knowledgeable and well-equipped workers in the construction industry.

As some of you may or may not know, the Business Agents have been visiting some the jobs in their area with the Business Manager to pass out face masks and to thank the members for manning the jobs. If you have not received a mask, contact one of the agents, and we will do our best to get one to you.

As for the work picture in District 3, things have not really slowed down. Oh sure, some projects are winding down, but the airport and Metro Rail have been taking off, as well as the Chevron refinery getting back to business.

Please continue to do your best to keep yourself and your family safe and to embrace our “new normal” until our old normal can resume.

On another note, here in District 3 we lost Brother Paul “Mink” Minkoff to the COVID-19 virus. He was a very familiar face in our local, and there is a great bio online in the Palisadian-Post. For those who knew him, they are better for it.

Be safe, stay safe,

Mike Costigan
