Unit 14 Civil Service — September Report

Sisters and Brothers,

Below are updates to our contracts:

LAUSD: Now that we are in the swing of things with our new contract, we have another issue on our horizon. The District is attempting to implement a reorganization structure that could possibly be detrimental to our members. The District is intent on creating a supervisory position that would not require trade-specific knowledge. Not only would this cause delays, confusion, and possible safety risks, but it would also create a situation where our folks would be limited on promotional opportunity. IBEW 11 is working diligently with the Building Trades to do everything we can to get what is best for our members. Stay tuned.

LA County: As of this writing, you should have received your pay increases and your retro pay. If you have not, please contact me immediately. The County is still working out the details of all of the bonuses and should be paying them shortly. I will keep you all posted. In the meantime, please continue to show the County why we are the best tradesmen and women, and that is why we deserve the best in terms of compensation and benefits.

LA City: The Building Trades has informed me that your new raises should go into effect during the first pay period of October, so you should see the increase on the second check of October. If you do not see the wage increase, please inform me right away. Unfortunately the retro payments are not slated to be done until closer to the end of the year. I thank you for your continued patience. If you have any questions, please contact me on my cell (626) 712-4769.

MOU 35: We are getting very close to a new contract. I have received several ideas and suggestions from our members working in the field. Although in the end, we may not get everything we asked for, I am confident that you will be pleased with the result. I thank you greatly for your participation and trust in the process. As soon as I have the final result, I will inform you all accordingly. For now, please continue to show the City how IBEW Local 11 wiremen and wirewomen perform.

For further information, please attend our Unit 14 Civil Service meeting which is held every 4th Thursday of the month! If you would like to speak to me directly, please feel free to contact me on my cell phone at (626) 712-4769. Alternatively you can email me directly at arida@ibew11.org.

Fraternally,

Luis Arida
